Frank Lampard set to extend Man City stay... and could face Arsenal and Chelsea again!

FRANK LAMPARD is poised to extend his stay with Manchester City.

Lampard joined the Premier League champions on a short-term deal last summer after leaving Chelsea.

The former England midfielder signed a deal that was expected to keep him at the Etihad Stadium until the New Year.

Lampard, 36, has signed a contract to join New York City in the MLS and was expected to travel to America after Christmas.

But it has emerged that his new club will travel to Manchester in January to hold a pre-season camp at City's new £200m training complex.

The New York outfit are hoping to take part in at least two friendlies against lower league opposition in the north west.

If this happens then it means Lampard will be able to remain with Manuel Pellegrini's men for several more weeks.

It also means that Lampard could now be available for crunch league clashes against Arsenal and former club Chelsea towards the end of January.

The news would be a huge boost to Pellegrini, who has seen Lampard make an impressive impact since joining the big spenders.

Lampard has scored four goals in just three starts this season to quickly become a crucial member of Pellegrini's squad.

Pellegrini is desperate to keep the veteran for as long as possible as he looks to defend the club's league crown.
