Gold and World Record for Paul Henriques
Portugal entered the ceiling height in the 1st World Championships in Athletics IAADS for athletes with Down Syndrome. In a day marked by torrential rains, the Portuguese athletes were able to raise six medals.
The highlight goes to the individual athlete's natural Ílhavo Paul Henriques, who won the gold medal in the 800m beating the World Record distance in 3:04:02, taking more than 12 seconds his previous mark.
Goncalves was the 100m silver medal and is the new record in Europe. The Madeiran Francisco Gouveia earned two medals for Portugal: the 800m silver and 100m bronze to athletes for mosaics.
In the women stood out Helena Sousa and Milene Sponsorship that the javelin throw got the silver and bronze medals respectively.
Note also for Maria Joao Silva (ranked 4th in the javelin), Bruno Leitão (7th place in the javelin with a national record) and Jennyfer Nogueira (8th in the 100m national record also), for good performance in the finals of their events.
Note also that the end of Matchday 1, Portugal is in second place teams host team behind Mexico and ahead of Italy (3rd) and the remaining 16 countries.
Today takes place the 2nd round of the Championship with an emphasis on the final 400m, 1,500 m of the march, the launch weight and the 4x100m men and women and even men's long jump.
