Greggs fans rejoice as ‘game changer’ DELIVERY service launched
POPULAR bakery Greggs has revealed that it is trialling a new delivery service.
Sausage rolls and pastries galore can be sent straight to your home using the UberEATS app in Newcastle.
The service launched on Monday and if successful could be rolled out across the UK.
People took to Twitter to rejoice at the news.
One wrote: "Greggs delivery is a game changer."
Another simply said: "Greggs do delivery in Newcastle I'm moving to Newcastle."
Delivery will be available within a mile of participating Greggs shops with no minimum spend required.
But it’s probably worth buying more than a sausage roll as it costs £2.50 per order.
UberEATS will not be able to deliver everything in store.
But a selection of favourites will include breakfast, hot and cold drinks, bakes and sausage rolls, freshly-prepared sandwiches, salads and sweet treats.
This week it was revealed sausage rolls had risen in price by 5p to 90p in most Greggs stores.
Roger Whiteside, Chief Executive at Greggs, said: “When it comes to food-on-the-go, our customers tell us that convenience is key.
“We’ve been working hard to take Greggs to where our customers need and want us to be including office parks, industrial estates, retail parks and travel hubs.
“More recently, we have also launched our office delivery service (from selected stores) and opened our first Drive Thru.”
The natural next step is to offer delivery to workplaces and homes.
Whiteside added: “Online ordering and delivery is something that we are often asked about and we are excited to confirm that we have launched a trial of this new concept to customers in our home city of Newcastle upon Tyne.
“This latest innovation will enable customers to enjoy our great tasting, good value food wherever they are, offering them the ultimate convenience.”
