BREAKING:
Blackpool Tower EVACUATED as blaze breaks out
BLACKPOOL Tower has been evacuated as smoke is seen coming from the building.
Emergency services rushed to the scene after the fire alarm was raised.
The blaze broke out around 12.40pm this afternoon, the Blackpool Gazette reports.
A spokesman for Lancashire Fire and Rescue, said: "There was a 'confirmed fire in one of the Tower building's roofs.
"Four fire crews from Blackpool, St Annes, Bispham and Fleetwood are in attendance, and the aerial ladder is on its way from Preston."
Nearby Bank Hey Street is currently closed.
Kate Shane, manager of attractions at Blackpool Tower, said contractors on the roof started a small fire.
This “created smoke that then triggered the alarm system as smoke had got into the roof void”.
