TENSIONS between Russia and the US have not been this bad since the days of the Cold War – as the two completely sever lines of communication in Syria.
Vladimir Putin's resurgent superpower has been sitting at loggerheads with the Pentagon over the explosive region.
But now Russia's deputy foreign minister revealed communications between the two have been cut.
The two powers have been accused of waging a proxy war as they each back opposing sides in the conflict between Bashar Al Assad, Syrian rebel forces, and the death cult ISIS.
Tensions came to a head in the region when both sides accused each other of launching a bombing raid on a UN aid convoy.
Russia were also furious after US-coalition forces were involved in a bombing raid which killed dozens of Kremlin-backed Syrian army soldiers.
Both the US and Russia have been walking towards war as a British admiral warned the world is closer to conflict than any time a past 50 years.
Deputy Foreign Minister Gennady Gatilov told TASS: "All contacts between the military have been stopped of late, there has been no exchange of information.
"We are trying to agree with Americans on resumption of truce in Syria."
Putin warned earlier this year the world was heading towards a new Cold War if relations did not improve between Russia and the US.
The region has been home to a number of skirmishes between the two powers.
Earlier this year Russian warplanes carried out a simulated attack run on US warships patrolling the Med.
US Navy ships also nearly came to blows with a Russian ship which made an "aggressive" manoeuvre towards them.
Putin's bombers also launched an airstrike on a British special forces base.
Daily Star Online revealed just how close the world has come to meeting complete armageddon as both superpowers ramp up their nuclear arsenals.
US secretary of state for defence Ash Carter warned Russia could launch a "terrible attack" and encouraged NATO to ramp up their military powers.
Syria has been warned to be one of the most volatile regions in the world as experts said global conflict could erupt as early as 2017.
