Horror as man ‘rapes woman in Old Trafford after she asked for a cigarette’


 
A WOMAN was dragged along the floor into a car park and raped in Old Trafford, Greater Manchester, after she asked for a cigarette, police have said.
 
She was walking to a shop when she approached the man – described as being Asian – and asked for a cigarette.
 
 He said he would only share on on the condition that she walked with him to Old Trafford’s Metrolink station.
 
 The woman was then dragged into a car park and raped.
 
 The alleged attacker has been described as Asian with short black hair, stubble, about 5ft 6ins, and in his early 40s.
 
 He spoke with a Manchester accent and wore a black leather jacket and jeans.
 
 Detective Inspector Carl Gilbert, of Greater Manchester Police, said: “This is an absolutely shocking incident and one that is sure to cause much concern to anybody who hears about what has happened.
 
 “We have a significant team working on this investigation and have increased patrols in the local community while we carry out further enquiries.
 
 “This man subjected his victim to a terrifying rape and we have a team of specially trained officers providing her with support at this difficult time.
 
 “The attacker was completely unknown to the woman and I would ask the people of Old Trafford to please contact the investigation team if they believe they may have seen anything suspicious.”
