Is this where Ben Needham is buried? Cops set to dig up land in search for missing tot

DETECTIVES believe this sandy spot of land is where missing British tot Ben Needham was buried 25 years ago.

The fresh breakthrough is investigating whether workman Konstantinos “Dino” Barkas, who died of stomach cancer last year, crushed the missing little boy with a digger.

His heartbroken mother was told to "prepare for the worst" as cops are searching for the 21-month-old's body.

Land owner Stefano Troumouhis, 33, was contacted by cops for his permission to dig up the sparse location on the Greek island of Kos.

The plot of barren land, which could hold the key to the case, is eerily located just behind Ben's grandparent's house and garden where he vanished.

Cops are preparing to dig up the 2 1/2 acre plot and one other secret spot in the next few weeks.

Detectives from South Yorkshire will descend on the small hamlet where Mr Troumouhis lives, a couple of miles out from the island capital Kos Town.

They searched the area in 2012.

Detective Superintendent Matt Fenwick is "keeping an open mind" while they carry out the investigation.

He added: “There will be planned operational activity at two locations on the island that have been identified as areas of interest to the investigation.

“We continue to keep an open mind and have updated Ben’s family about certain lines of enquiry we’re currently exploring.

“A dedicated policing team continues to work extremely hard to find answers for his family and keep them fully informed and supported throughout the investigation.”

But Mr Troumouhis sensationally revealed he doesn't think they will find the little boy.

"I don't think they will find Ben," he told the Mirror.

"I just hope he is alive somewhere and his mother can be reunited with her son.

"That would be fantastic if that happens."

The land owner said he was good friends with Mr Barkas and his family.

He added: "I do not believe he had anything to do with Ben's disappearance."

The shocking breakthrough comes as a pal of the digger driver told cops he believes the workman was responsible.
