Booze-buster cop axed for being drunk and disorderly

A POLICEMAN who helped fight boozy violence in pubs has been sacked for being drunk and disorderly.

Gordon Underwood was arrested after colleagues tried to arrest his girlfriend on suspicion of drink-driving.

A court heard he obstructed two sergeants and a Pc who went to her home in Hull.

Underwood, 39, who worked in Humberside Police’s licensing section, appeared in court before being booted off the force.

The city’s magistrates fined him £300 after he admitted being drunk and disorderly and obstructing the police.

Acting Chief Constable Garry Forsyth said: “He fell far short of the standards that are required of a police officer.”

Underwood previously had a spotless police record and had been a leading figure in the campaign to crack down on violence in pubs and improve public safety in Hull city centre bars by using plastic glasses.

But solicitor Sarah Middleton told the disciplinary hearing last week that he admitted breaching offi cial standards of professional behaviour.

She added: “The public have a right to expect high standards from officers. His convictions undermines public confidence in the police. His conduct amounts to gross misconduct.”
