Terror cops called in after 'white powder' delivered to office in Houses of Parliament

A TERROR probe has been launched after a letter containing white powder was delivered to an office at the Houses of Parliament.

Met Police said its officers rushed to the Palace of Westminster after reports of a "suspicious package" had been sent to an office there.

Cops said the package contained white powder.

A spokesperson for the force said: "At approximately 11:36am on Tuesday, 13 February, police were informed of a suspicious package that had been delivered to an office within the Palace of Westminster.

"Police are at the scene and dealing.

"The letter contained a white powder which is currently being assessed by specialists.

"The office remains closed at this time, but the rest of the Palace of Westminster is open."

Cops confirmed detectives from the Met's Counter Terrorism Command are now on the case.

A House of Commons spokesperson earlier said an investigation is under way, with a heavy presence of police forming in the corridors.

The spokesperson said: "The Police are currently investigating an incident on the Parliamentary Estate."

An unnamed police officer, in Speaker's Court in Parliament, earlier confirmed the package has been found.

The officer said: "We haven't been told much but a package has been left.

"Specialist officers have just arrived to examine it. It won't be anything to worry about."

The building was not placed on lockdown.
