Kim Jong-un fattened up: North Korean tyrant is FORCED to stay tubby

KIM Jong-un is known for his big appetite, but he doesn’t get a say in the matter, a senior North Korean defector claims.

Jang Jin-sung said the leader has to be obese as a requirement of the role, so that he more closely resembles his father and grandfather.

These former leaders, Kim Jong-il and Kim Il-sung respectively, were notorious gourmands and were exalted in North Korean society as god-like figures.

So fond was he of his food, that Kim Il-sung actually had cows fed beer and massaged to make their meat more tender – at a time when the country was ravaged by famine.

And Kim Jong-il had an Italian pizza chef, Ermanno Furlanis, flown to North Korea – along with thousands of dollars of ingredients - so he could teach local chefs some new tricks.

Mr Jang said Kim Jong-un was not his father’s first choice to take over as leader and was therefore emphasising his resemblance to the leaders of the past in a bid to boost his own credibility.

Mr Jang, who was poet laureate of North Korea before his escape, said: “Under the inheritance system of the country’s leadership, they have to be similar to each other.

"They not only have to share the same lineage, they have to have a similar appearance. They even have to be similar in their obesity," he told Daily Star Online.

However, the dictator’s attempt to derive legitimacy from past Kims has one crucial failing – the cult of personality around them is beginning to falter.

Mr Jang, who once met Kim Jong-il personally, said: “In the past, the late Kims were highly idolised, like god, however now that concept is non-existent among people.

"The authority of Kim Jong-un has been displayed a lot in the media, however this is just a show. I would say the authority of Kim Jong-un is not as close to what's being displayed."

No photos of Kim Jong-un with his grandad have ever been released, but a side by side comparison reveals a striking – and probably deliberate – resemblance between the two.

Chang Yong-seok, an analyst at Seoul National University in South Korea, told the UPI news agency that if such a picture existed, Kim Jong-un would have published it.

One defector told South Korea's Chosun Ilbo that the photo probably never happened because Kim Il-sung has an "aversion" to the children Kim Jong-un's father had with his mother, Ko Yong-hui.
