US Air Force intercept Russia bombers on American border

FIGHTER jets have intercepted a number of Russian bombers right on the country's border.

The military jets stopped the pair of Russian bombers and two fighter jets near the state of Alaska today.

Two Russian Bear bombers – or Tupolev Tu-95 – and a pair of Su-35 "Flanker" fighter jets first entered Alaska's Air Defense Zone early this morning, US officials confirmed.

The plane formation was swiftly detected by two US Air Force F-22 stealth fighter jets that were already airborne taking part in a patrol.

The incident happened about 50 miles south-west of the Chariot area of Alaska.

But officials have been quick to point out the jets were unarmed and remained and did not stray of international airspace – despite being just miles from the US border.

Last month, Russian bombers raised eyebrows flying incredibly close to Alaska over a period of four days first time since 2014.

Just last month, President Donald Trump described relations between Russia as at an "all-time low".

It followed Trump ordering an airstrike on Russia's ally Syria, targeting the country's President Bashar al-Assad's territory.

This was in response to an alleged chemical attack by al-Assad on his own civilians.

Trump said last month: “We’re not getting along with Russia at all – we may be at an all-time low”.He avoided any direct criticism of

The US Secretary of State, Rex Tillerson, added: “I expressed the view that the current state of US-Russian relations is at a low point.

“The world’s two foremost nuclear powers cannot have this kind of relationship.”

And just days ago, General Curtis Scaparrotti requested the movement of more US troops to Europe to fend off any moves by Vladimir Putin.

Thousands of troops and tanks from NATO nations have been deployed to Russia's doorstep over fears of the superpower annexing further land after it seized Crimea from the Ukraine in 2014.
