World Cup qualifying terror: ISIS jihadis tried to blow up international team at weekend

ISIS terrorists arrested over the weekend have admitted they were planning to use guns and explosives to attack a national football team at a World Cup qualifier.

The suspects, all Albanian nationals, were arrested in three separate Balkan countries in a coordinated police operation over the weekend.

They were plotting an attack against the Israeli football team at the Loro Borici stadium in the Albanian city of Shkodra.
Their  World Cup Group G qualifier against Albania was supposed to take place  at the stadium but was later moved by FIFA to a venue closer to the  capital Tirana for security reasons
The plot to attack the Israeli squad – who flew with their own  armed security guards –was reportedly exposed by Israel's  counter-terrorism bureau.

Authorities arrested four suspects in Albania, two in Macedonia and nine in Kosovo.
According  to the latest reports, two of the nine arrested in Kosovo have  confirmed the terrorist plot and have agreed to cooperate with authorities and explained the attack in detail.
They were planning to attack the Israeli footballers upon their  arrival at the Loro Borici stadium – first with explosives and then with gunfire.

It was supposed to be carried out by the nine arrested  in Kosovo and they were to be "supported" by those arrested in Albania,  reports said.
A source speaking to local media said the four men who were arrested in Albania have so far refused to speak to investigators.
The Israeli players reportedly asked FIFA to schedule the game at a neutral venue but their request was refused.

The match took place on Saturday November 12 and Israel beat their Albanian hosts 3-0.
Albania  and Israel have six points each after three games played in their  qualifying group – but it is thought they will struggle against group  favourites Spain and Italy.
