SIR ALEX DOUBTS REF CLAIMS

MANCHESTER UNITED boss Sir Alex Ferguson has said he doesn't believe Chelsea's claims about race row ref Mark Clattenburg.

The Stamford Bridge club made an official complaint to the FA about Clattenburg's use of "inappropriate language" towards John Obi Mikel during their Premier League clash with United last Sunday.

Clattenburg himself has denied the allegation, which is also subject to a police investigation.

And Fergie doesn't believe the official would act in such a way.

"I don't believe Mark Clattenburg would make any comments like that. I refuse to believe it," he said.

"I think it is unthinkable in the modern climate. I just don't believe it - simple as that.

"There is no way a referee would stoop to that, I am convinced of that."

The Old Trafford boss also said that he had never had experience of a referee abusing one of his player's during his long managerial career.

"I have never heard a player come to me in the last 15 years and say a referee has sworn at them during a game, ever.

"So, that is where I stand. I don't believe it."
