Arsenal v Liverpool will NOT take place on Christmas Eve: Premier League move fixture

ARSENAL v Liverpool will NOT take place on Christmas Eve after the Premier League decided to move the fixture to Friday, December 22.

Sky Sports wanted the match to take place on Christmas Eve but backlash from fans has forced the change.

There were suggestions a compromise could be found with a lunchtime kick-off.

But the Premier League have now made the decision to move the fixture to Friday, December 22 at 7.45pm.

Another game which was mentioned as possibly taking place on Christmas Eve was Manchester United's trip to Leicester.

But that match will kick-off at 7.45pm on Saturday, December 23.

Arsenal feared they would not be able to get the safety certificate needed for the 4pm kick-off.

And Liverpool were concerned supporters would be unable to attend due to issues with trains and the tube on Christmas Eve.

When the initial suggestion was made Reds fan group the Spirit of Shankley said: "We hope that common sense will prevail and that both clubs, police, television companies and the Premier League decide against such a move."

There has not been a Premier League fixture on December 24 since 1995.

The next batch of televised fixtures is set to be announced later today.

Arsenal return to Premier League action this Sunday with a match against Everton.

Liverpool travel to Wembley to take on Tottenham straigh afterwards.
