Athletes with intellectual disabilities participate in the Summer Games Special Olympics

Brazil will compete in seven sports. Games take place from 25/06 to 4 / 7.
On June 19, 50 athletes and 17 Special Olympics coaches left Brazil towards the realization of the dream to represent Brazil in the biggest sporting event for people with intellectual disabilities, the World Summer Games Special Olympics, which take place from June 25 to July 4th in Athens. 185 countries participate in the games, represented by 7,500 athletes competing in 12 sports. Brazilian athletes will compete in seven of them: athletics, football, 7, 11 soccer, rhythmic gymnastics, judo, swimming, tennis and table tennis.
The P & G's partnership with the entity, which began in Brazil in 2010, has as main objective to contribute to the improvement of quality of life and inclusion in society of people with intellectual disabilities through sports. Last year, P & G sponsored the Special Olympics National Games, in Sao Paulo in a big party attended by over two hundred athletes from six states of Brazil, attended by the ambassadors Denilson and Fernando Meligeni. In addition, the company enabled the sending of all Brazilian athletes and coaches to the World Games in Greece, since many were not able to participate.
In Brazil, there are over 9 million people with intellectual disabilities and about 100 million people are directly or indirectly impacted by this situation. "This action is fully aligned with the purpose of P & G: to improve the lives of more consumers in more places, more completely," said Juliana Karazawa, marketing manager for P & G. According to Teresa Leitao, director of sports in Special Olimpycs, projects such as the entity develops are essential for these people and their families can overcome obstacles.
