Borussia Dortmund 3 Tottenham 0: Aubameyang and Reus rip Spurs to shreds in emphatic win

TOTTENHAM'S hopes of reaching the quarter-finals of the Europa League are in tatters after a comprehensive defeat to German giants Bourssia Dortmund.

The Bundesliga side recorded a 3-0 victory over the Londoners thanks to a first-half strike from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and a brace from Marco Reus in the second.

Mauricio Pochettino's men started the contest brightly and managed to keep Dortmund's dangerous forwards at bay.

But that changed in sixth minute when neat work from Aubameyang lead to Erik Durm being put clean through on Hugo Lloris' goal.

The 23-year-old looked a dead cert to score but dragged his shot wide of the post.

Dortmund continued to run riot and thought they'd taken the lead in the 14th minute when Aubameyang pounced on a parried shot from Henrikh Mkhitaryan and fired home from just inside the 18-yard-box.

But his effort was correctly ruled out for offside.

Spurs, who made six changes to side that drew 2-2 with Arsenal last Saturday, managed to keep Aubameyang quiet for the majority of the half.

But a lapse of concentration from full-back Ben Davies in the 29th minute gifted the former Saint-Etienne man a free header just outside the six-yard-box.

And the current African Football of the Year gobbled up the opportunity by placing the ball past Lloris.

Dortmund started the second period a lot better than the first and nearly took the lead in the 49th minute when Aubameyang teed up Gonzalo Castro for a tap in.

However, he spurned the opportunity by hitting the post.

Thomas Tuchel's men continued to pressurise the north Londoners and doubled their lead on the hour mark through Marco Reus.

And the Germany international killed the game off in the 69th minute with a sumptuous finish from just outside the six-yard-box.

Dortmund continued to plough forward in search of the goal that would've well and truly killed off the tie.

However, they were unable to add to their tally and had to settle for a three goal victory.
