Huge Arsenal injury blow: Santi Cazorla out for three months

ARSENAL expect Santi Cazorla to be out for three more months after needing surgery on his ankle injury.

Cazorla will travel to Sweden early next week to undergo an operation on his right foot.

The Spain international has been out since getting hurt in Arsenal's 6-0 Champions League win over Ludogorets on October 19.

It had been hoped the playmaker, who scored twice during the Gunners' impressive start to the new campaign, would be able to recover without going under the knife.

But the club have now announced that the 31-year-old will be out for several further months after needing surgery.

In a statement, Arsenal said: "We expect Santi’s full recovery to take approximately three months.

"Everyone at the club will be working hard with Santi to make sure he’s back on the pitch as soon as possible."

Cazorla made 11 appearances for Arsenal before his untimely injury blow.

And the Gunners have missed the midfield maestro in recent weeks.

Arsene Wenger's side claimed seven consecutive victories before Cazorla's injury but have won just four from nine matches since.

They were beaten 2-0 at home by Southampton in their EFL Cup quarter-final last night.

The north Londoners currently sit fourth in the Premier League table, three points behind leaders Chelsea.

They take on West Ham at the London Stadium on Saturday.
