Everton 1 Man United 1: Late Leighton Baines penalty rescues Ronald Koeman's men
LEIGHTON BAINES' late penalty rescued a point for Everton against Manchester United in a tightly fought contest at Goodison Park.
After a ponderous first-half, Zlatan Ibrahimovic opened the scoring two minutes before the break.
Anthony Martial lumped forward a hopeful ball from inside his own half which drew Maarten Stekelenburg out of his goal.
But the Everton keeper was beaten to the ball by Ibrahimovic, who lobbed his former Ajax team-mate.
The ball clattered into the crossbar, and then the post, before slowly drifting over the line.
It was a cool finish from the veteran striker, but a real clanger from Everton's keeper.
Ibrahimovic was lucky to stay on the pitch just five minutes into the second-half.
He got in a wrestling match with Seamus Coleman but was only shown a yellow card by the referee.
Coleman was substituted through injury shortly after his tussle with the Swedish star.
It wasn't the first meaty challenge from a United player.
Marcos Rojo was equally fortunate not to be sent off after a two-footed lunge on Idrissa Gueye in the first-half.
Despite United looking comfortable for most of the game, Baines converted a late penalty to ensure a point for Ronald Koeman's men in the dying minutes.
Substitute Marouane Fellaini felled Idrissa Gueye in the box.
And Baines made no mistake from the penalty spot with an expertly taken strike.
In a frantic closing minutes, both sides searched for a winner but the honours remained even.
