CALM HARRY REDKNAPP TELLS TOTTENHAM BOYS TO THINK FOOTBALL
HARRY REDKNAPP has told his shell-shocked Tottenham players to get their minds back on football tonight.
The Spurs boss and his men were left badly shaken after Bolton midfielder Fabrice Muamba collapsed on the pitch at White Hart Lane during Saturday’s FA Cup quarter-final.
Fabrice Muamba, 23, is now showing positive signs in hospital, raising hopes he will make a recovery from his cardiac arrest.
Since the weekend, Tottenham’s players have all undergone heart checks at their own request, while a counsellor was also brought in to speak to them.
They make their return to the pitch tonight when Stoke visit in the Premier League.
And Redknapp said: “Sometimes the best thing is to get back on the bike if you fall off, and we need to do that. We need to get going again.
“There is still a long way to go, but things are moving in the right direction and we will keep our fingers crossed for the boy.
“All the lads are buoyed by the news which has come through, things have obviously picked up. There’s still a long way to go, but the improvement he made yesterday was beyond belief.
“We’ve just got to keep our fingers crossed that he keeps improving like that.”
Redknapp is not underestimating the possible on-going effects of seeing Muamba fighting for his life on the pitch,
especially as Spurs striker Jermain Defoe is a close friend of his.
“I’ll look at the players in training,” added Redknapp.
“Half of being a manager is about psychology. You can soon tell if their mind is on it or they don’t look like they’re into it.
“The younger lads are experienced in football terms, but not in life.”
