Brendan Rodgers to remain as Liverpool boss after positive talks with club owners

BRENDAN RODGERS will stay on as Liverpool boss after positive talks with club co-owner Tom Werner.

The pair – along with Fenway Sports Group president Mike Gordon – had an end-of-season debrief after a shocking season for the Anfield club.

They have agreed to move forward together after comprehensive talks which lasted two hours in Liverpool earlier today.

The Irishman was asked about where the season went wrong and what mistakes were made.

He was also quizzed about his plans for the future.

FSG had no intention to change the manager despite last week’s 6-1 hammering by Stoke and the season’s failings overall.

But it was believed that if the meeting about the club’s future had not gone well then Rodgers’ position may have come under threat.

It has not come to that and Rodgers will be in charge for the start of the season.

He will now press ahead with summer transfer plans which he had already been working on.

Werner arrived on Merseyside on Monday night for the meeting but also to oversee the free transfer of James Milner.

The midfielder is a free agent and the Reds have offered him a contract worth £150,000-a-week.

Danny Ings is close to completion too although the Reds will have to settle a fee – of around £5m – with a tribunal for the striker.

Southampton right-back Nathaniel Clyne remains on their wanted list while they are discussing a move for Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke.
