England wicket-keeper Jos Buttler should be fit for the Ashes

JOS BUTTLER is on course to be fit for the start of the Ashes.

Buttler handed England a scare after sustaining a hand injury ahead of next month's Test series with Australia.

The Lancashire wicket-keeper split the webbing on his left hand last week.

He was forced out of the ODI decider with New Zealand as well as this week's one-off Twenty20 international.

But Buttler will be ready for the Cardiff curtain-raiser on July 8 and he said: "Everything is on track. There are no worries.

"The stitches are due to come out. I could have played in the previous international but we did not want to take any risks."

Meanwhile, the Aussies were in ominous form yesterday after racking up 348 for 3 against Kent in their opening warm-up game.

Shaun Marsh staked his claim for the openers spot by hitting 114.

Chris Rogers (84), Steve Smith (71 not out) and captain Michael Clarke (56) were also in the runs at Canterbury.
