THIERRY HENRY'S ARSENAL RETURN BLOCKED BY NEW YORK RED BULLS


NEW York Red Bulls look set to block an Arsenal bid to sign Thierry Henry on loan again.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger said on Tuesday that he was considering bringing in Henry, 35, for a short-term spell in January, as he did last year when the MLS club allowed the striker to play seven games.


But Red Bulls’ new sporting director, Andy Roxburgh, last night said he was against the idea.


“In general terms, I wouldn’t say it would be something we would favour,” he said.


“I think the length of the season we have here, when they get the break over the Christmas, New Year’s period, they need to regenerate themselves.


“I’d say in general we wouldn’t be too positive about it.’’


Roxburgh, who was Scotland manager from 1986-93, replaced Swede Hans Backe this month following the club’s third consecutive MLS play-off failure.


He added: “Right now, no-one has requested for anyone to go on loan.


“It depends on the individual, it depends on the circumstances.


“You cannot say never on that one. But it’s unlikely, at the moment, that would happen.’’
