Chelsea star Danny Drinkwater FUMING at claims he snubbed England call-up
CHELSEA star Danny Drinkwater is fuming at suggestions he declined an England call-up.
His international career is hanging by a thread following his decision to reject the chance to play in the friendlies against Germany and Brazil.
Gareth Southgate revealed earlier this week that the former Leicester midfielder chose not to join up with the squad as he didn’t feel he was ready.
The 27-year-old has recently returned from a long injury lay-off and is yet to reach match fitness, starting just one game for the Blues so far.
And according to the Mirror, Drinkwater is furious at accusations he doesn’t want to play for his country.
Chelsea’s medical staff felt it would be better for him to stay with his club and receive intensive daily treatment following his calf problem.
Drinkwater was hoping to be in Southgate’s plans for next summer’s World Cup but he may have blown his opportunity with this latest incident.
He wasn’t originally included in the squad but received a late call-up after six players dropped out, including midfielders Dele Alli and Jordan Henderson
England welcome five-time world champions Brazil to Wembley on Tuesday.
Chelsea are back in Premier League action next weekend as they travel to West Brom.
