Cristiano Ronaldo plane has CRASHED: Landing gear on £16m jet fails


 
CRISTIANO RONALDO'S multi-million pound private plane has crashed in Spain.
 
The landing gear of the £16m jet broke while touching down at an airport in Barcelona on Monday night.
 
 Eyewitnesses report that the landing gear smashed on impact with the tarmac and emergency services raced to the scene.
 
 The crash forced airport authorities to close one of the runways at El Prat airfield, located a few miles southwest of Barcelona city centre.
 
 Real Madrid superstar Ronaldo was not on board at the time.
 
 It is understood that the pilot suffered very minor injuries but no one else was hurt in the incident.
 
 Ronaldo purchased the luxury Gulfstream G200 jet around a year ago and occasionally leases it out to private clients.
 
 A source close to Ronaldo told The Mirror: "The plane is normally rented by companies and it was in use by one of them.
 
 "Cristiano Ronaldo, his family or friends were not on the plane. The incident had no major consequences."
 
 Ronaldo often shows off his private jet on social media and recently took to Instagram to post a snap of himself relaxing on the aircraft while on a trip to Madeira.
 
 The crash took place while the 31-year-old was traveling with his Real squad to Germany for their Champions League clash against Borussia Dortmund.
 
 The former Manchester United star netted the opener during the 2-2 draw at the Westfalenstadion on Tuesday evening.
 
 Ronaldo, who helped Portugal to glory at Euro 2016 over the summer, currently earns around £330,000-a-week with La Liga giants Real.
 
 He left Old Trafford to move to Spain in 2009 for a then world-record transfer fee of £80m and has gone on to score over 360 goals for Los Blancos.
