Liam Broady to continue nomadic lifestyle despite record career earnings at Wimbledon

WANDERING star Liam Broady won't be using any of his £47,000 winnings sticking a deposit on a house.

The 21-year-old Brit is officially of no fixed abode, spending his time kipping at the homes of his friends.

And he's quite happy to carry on his nomadic life after his Wimbledon adventure came to an abrupt end at the hands of David Goffin.

Broady went toe to toe with the Belgian No. 16 seed in a hard-fought first set but after losing the tie-break 7-3, the class gap told with Goffin reeling off six successive breaks of serve to win 7-6 6-1 6-1.

The cheque Broady picked up for his heroic five set first round win over Marinko Matosevic came close to doubling his career earnings but there are no thoughts of putting down roots.

The Stockport-born player is still in the men's doubles but can't play in the mixed with big sister Naomi with all wild card places already snapped up.

He'll then take a few days off before heading for the United States – staying with pals in Pittsburgh – spurning material rewards and instead focusing on building on this week's breakthrough.

Broady's profile has soared - his distinctive beard now has its own Twitter account - and he's relishing life in the limelight.

"I've absolutely loved it and I felt at home on court again," said Broady who insists his "have racquet will travel" routine suits him.

"When I was back in Manchester over Christmas, I started to get itchy feet.

"I've grown to love my life and if I was still sitting at home not doing anything, I'd feel like I needed to get back out there.

"I've got direction again. The tour is a bit of slog and grind but just to know that I can compete with these best guys and still have so much improvement in me is immensely uplifting."

Broady, however, admitted he could not live with Goffin once he lost his opening serve in the second set.

"It was nip and tuck early on which is very positive considering he's 15 in the world," added Broady, who remains estranged from his father.

"The longer the match went on, the more fatigued I became which is something I'm working on and he just didn't waiver."
