James Rodriguez reveals why he signed for Real Madrid despite Manchester United interest
 
 JAMES RODRIGUEZ admits he dreamed of playing for Real Madrid as a three-year-old growing up in Colombia.
 
 The attacking midfielder attracted interest from Manchester United following his dazzling displays in the World Cup but he opted to make a £63m move to Real.
 
 Rodriguez says his long-held ambition to play for the Spanish side motivated his decision to sign for last season's Champions League winners.
 
 He told Spanish radio station Cadena SER: "I always wanted to be here, I dreamed of it a lot. From the age of three or four I dreamed of being here and I want to stay here for many years.
 
 "I want to fight to the death so that this dream continues. I knew that I had talent, but in football you also have to have luck.
 
 The 23-year-old also revealed that his switch to the Bernabeu was in the works long before he announced himself to the world in Brazil during the summer.
 
 He said: "We were already talking before the World Cup. I wanted to leave France and I knew that if I had a good World Cup I could leave.
 
 "[Jorge] Mendes told me that I had to be calm. I had great motivation to perform well because then I could join a big team.
 
 "The first time that I spoke with Florentino Pérez was when I signed my contract."
