EMMANUEL ADEBAYOR RED-CARD VILLAIN IN 5-2 DERBY LOSS

FORMER Gunner Emmanuel Adebayor put Spurs ahead then cost his side the match after being red-carded for this X-rated tackle on Santi Cazorla.

After being reduced to ten men, Andre Villas-Boas’ side could not contain a rampant Arsenal, who made the numerical advantage pay to storm to a thrilling 5-2 victory.

Per Mertesacker scored his first goal for Arsenal to put them on level terms. Lukas Podolksi and Olivier Giroud made it 3-1 by half-time.

Cazorla’s goal put Spurs 4-1 down before Gareth Bale pulled one back. But England star Theo Walcott, who created Mertesacker’s early equaliser, pounced in the last minute to make it a rout.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger said: “Adebayor’s sending-off was the turning point but we had some outstanding offensive performances and Santi Cazorla was outstanding.

“It’s an important result and will help our confidence.”

Wenger wants to agree a new contract with Theo Walcott and said: “His performance in this match makes his case stronger.”
