Bordeaux 1 Liverpool 1: Adam Lallana strike not enough for Reds in Europa League opener

A wonderful solo effort from midfielder Adam Lallana wasn't enough to secure victory for Liverpool against a resilient Bordeaux.

The Reds looked to be heading for their first win in four games, but were pegged back with just nine minutes of normal time remaining.

The England international, who returned to the starting XI after a month on the sidelinesy, produced a cracking piece of individual skill to give Liverpool the lead.

Lallana received the ball from Alberto Moreno, nutmegged defender Pablo and guided the ball into the far corner. A fine goal.

Having seen Manchester United, Manchester City and Arsenal all lose their opening Champions League group matches, Liverpool were under pressure to fly the British flag.

But the Merseyside outfit were unable to join Chelsea in the European winners enclosure.

Liverpool failed to stop Enzo Crivelli showboating inside the area and the ball eventually fell to Jussie who blasted past Simon Mignolet.

Swiss side Sion are next Europa League opponents for Liverpool - a fixture to be played on October 1.
