MICHAEL OWEN HEADS TO STOKE

STOKE are favourites to sign Michael Owen after he snubbed an offer from Everton.

The 32-year-old is currently without a club after being released by Manchester United earlier this summer.

Although he has played just ten games since January 2011, Potters boss Tony Pulis is ready to gamble on the striker's fitness.

Stoke are looking for a new front-man after Ricardo Fuller left the club at the end of last season.

And it is thought Owen would prefer a move to the Britannia as it is barely 30 miles from the plush stables where he keeps his race horses.

Everton had initially shown an interest in bringing the former England international to Goodison Park.

But Owen's status as an ex-Liverpool player made such a move difficult.

There is also uncertainty over the future of Toffees boss David Moyes, who is Tottenham's preferred choice to succeed Harry Redknapp.
