Former Manchester United star could have lost £7m after making Twitter bet with fans
BARCELONA defender Gerard Pique could have lost over £7m in a Twitter bet with his followers.
We all know footballers have plenty of disposable income but this would have been a serious financial hit for the former Manchester United man.
That's exactly what could have happened to Gerard Pique this weekend as he made a wager with his fans which could have been horribly costly, even by a footballer's standards.
Relaxing after Barcelona's 2-1 win over Atletico Madrid, Pique noticed a remarkable trend for 2-2 draws in Serie A.
He tweeted about it, stating that if the last two games of the day (Lazio v Udinese and Inter v AC Milan) ended with the same result he'd buy everyone who retweeted him a Barcelona shirt.
In the end, he got about 80,000 retweets - with Barca shirts around £85 a pop, the whole venture would have cost him just under £7m. He must have spent the evening sweating.
Luckily for him, Lazio beat Udinese 2-0 and Inter overcame AC Milan 1-0. The trend was bucked - much to Pique's relief.
Barcelona are top of La Liga with three wins out of three and are two points clear of rivals Real Madrid.
