Judo: Athletes compete for spot in Rio Selection
Until 13/11, about 150 athletes will compete in the Grand Prix Infraero Judo for the Blind, which is being held in Niterói (RJ).

From 12/11, Rio de Janeiro will host about 150 athletes who will compete for the title of Grand Prix Infraero Judo for the Blind. The first stage of the competition took place in August in Sao Paulo. In Rio phase will define the names that will join the Selection Committee, who will play in the World Games in April of the IBSA (International Blind Sports), Turkey.
"This will be a more technical level competitions of the year, since the technical committee will make the final evaluation of athletes before the convening of the World," said the head coach of the sport, Jaime Braganza.
The competition will bring together the best judo athletes with blindness or low vision in the country.
"Among women, in all categories have an athlete or medal in the Paralympics or World. In the men, the fight will also be good, because of the definition of the athletes who will make the selection permanent."
For the coach and member of the technical committee of the Brazilian Judo Maribondo Tiberius, the event brings together the top names in sport in the country
"We have good athletes from several states. Potiguar Alexander is one of the names to beat in the heavyweight (100 kg) of Brazilian paralympic judo. Six years ago the proprietor of the Brazilian team champion and Grand Prix, the expectation is a good place already thinking of the IBSA World Games in Turkey in April, the Parapan Guadalajara in November, and the wave of the London Olympics in 2012. On the female side, Lúcia Teixeira (57kg) showed good physical and tactical level in the first stage of the Grand Prix in Sao Paulo. With just 25 seconds into the fight, the athlete defeated opponent Erik Zuaga also by Ippon. In World mode, in April, Turkey, Lucia won the best national placing bringing silver to Brazil.
Another talent that will be fighting for gold on the mats is Victoria Rio Santos (70kg). In the first stage, besides winning the student category, Victoria also took gold in the adult class. At just 17 years, the girl secured a bronze in the World from Turkey.
The tournament, organized by the Brazilian Paralympic Committee, will feature more than 180 people from 12 states. The competition will take place in the Gymnasium of the Association of Physically Handicapped-Niteroiense Andef in Niteroi, Rio de Janeiro. Admission is free.
