Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp discusses Steven Gerrard to Rangers links

LIVERPOOL boss Jurgen Klopp says he isn’t surprised about clubs being interested in Steven Gerrard.

The Reds legend has been tipped to quit his role as a Liverpool academy coach in favour of becoming the next Rangers manager.

Reports today suggested initial talks have been held between the Scottish club and Gerrard.

And Klopp has hailed the former Reds skipper, claiming he understands why Rangers want Gerrard to be their next boss.

"I am not worried. Steven was, is and always will be a LFC legend," Klopp said at his pre-match press conference ahead of Liverpool’s clash with Stoke.

"I don't even know what the situation is. Nobody has told me there's a decision. I can imagine clubs are interested in Stevie.

"Massive experience. If I owned a club I would think about him as well.

"One day it will happen either here or somewhere else."

A lot has been made of Gerrard being linked with the Rangers job, with former Arsenal hero and pundit Alan Smith claiming the ex-England star isn’t ready for the role.

"I would be surprised to see him go because he has put himself into the Liverpool academy and is deadly serious about learning the trade as a coach and serving his apprenticeship," he said

"Then to leap into a huge job like that at a huge club where the expectations are massive and I am sure it is not an easy place to manage; I don't think he is ready for it.

"I see his future at Liverpool, I would be amazed if he did go."

Liverpool are back in action tomorrow afternoon when the Reds host Stoke in the Premier League (12:30pm kick-off).
