Jurgen Klopp persuaded Marko Grujic to move to Liverpool over Chelsea
 
JURGEN KLOPP convinced Marko Grujic to join Liverpool instead of Chelsea.
 
 The Serbian midfielder today completed his £5.1m move from Red Star Belgrade, signing a four-year contract.
 
 The 19-year-old will remain on loan at Red Star until the end of the season.
 
 Red Star had announced a fee had been agreed with Liverpool before Christmas with the Reds having bid more than Stuttgart and Anderlecht.
 
 But Starsport understands Chelsea were also interested in signing Grujic.
 
 And it was Klopp's personal intervention that persuaded the Under-20 international to choose a move to Anfield over Chelsea and Inter Milan.
 
 Grujic becomes Klopp's first signing since taking over from Brendan Rodgers in the summer.
 
 Russian giants Zenit St Pertersburg and CSKA Moscow had tried to hijack the deal late on by bidding £7.4m but the players was set on a switch to Merseyside.
 
 Grujic had confirmed over the weekend that he would be joining Klopp's side, announcing on his Facebook page that he was becoming a Liverpool player.
