Tim Krul doubtful for Newcastle's trip to West Ham after training knock

KEEPER Tim Krul could miss Newcastle’s trip to West Ham after picking up a knock in training.

Toon chief Alan Pardew today refused to rule out the Dutchman for his return to Upton Park where the in-form Magpies go in search of a sixth straight win.

But with Krul rated touch and go, understudy Rob Elliot has been placed on stand-by.

Newcastle have not conceded a goal since going behind at Tottenham on October 26 despite a string of injuries to key defenders.

Both skipper Fabricio Coloccini and Steven Taylor missed last week’s win over Queen’s Park Rangers but that did not prevent the injury-hit Geordies from keeping another clean sheet.

That pair have both trained this week though Pardew wants to keep his former club guessing over who will be starting for the visitors.

“Colo is back in training along with Steven Taylor and Cheick Tiote,” said the Toon chief, who is in line to pick up the November manager of the month award just weeks after being bookies’ favourite to be next boss to be sacked.

“And Rolando Aarons should be around next week though he is not quite ready.

“Some of them will be in contention for Saturday but I don’t want to give too much away.

“We’ve had a terrible run of injuries so it’s a great boost.

“And it’s testimony to the depth of our squad that we’ve enjoyed such a good run at this time.”

Pardew is confident Newcastle can maintain their momentum against the Hammers.

He added: “We should be in a good place. The training ground has been phenomenal this week.

“It’s been really difficult calming everyone down.

“They are on fire and really enjoying their football right now.”
