Michel Platini faces criticism for revealing he wants to replace Sepp Blatter as FIFA boss

MICHEL PLATINI confirmed he wants to replace Sepp Blatter as FIFA boss - then found himself under attack from two potential rivals for world football’s top job.

Platini wants to replace Blatter as president when he steps down next February.

Blatter has been forced to resign following an FBI investigation into allegations of widespread corruption within football’s governing body and the bidding for World Cups.

UEFA president Platini, 60, is red-hot favourite to land the job and admits he is on a mission to clean up FIFA.

Platini said: “I have brought Europe together on a unifying path. I gave all the national associations - big and small - the place they deserved. Now, I aspire to do the same at world level, to offer all national associations a common cause.”

But within hours of staking his claim for Blatter’s job, Platini came under-fire from Prince Ali Bin al-Hussein and Musa Bility, who are both expected to stand against him.

Prince Ali, who lost out to Blatter the May election, said: “Football’s fans and players deserve better. FIFA needs a new, independent leadership, untainted by the practices of the past”.

Bility, who is president of the Liberian Football Association, also laid into Platini and claimed he would bring “chaos, more division, more problems” to FIFA.
