BENFICA midfielder Renato Sanches does not represent a gamble for Manchester United, according to Owen Hargreaves.
United have been tracking the Portuguese sensation since the beginning of the season and saw a £31m deal rejected on deadline day.
Sanches, 18, has a £62m release clause in his contract but Benfica would reportedly accept a fee in the region of £47m.
Though the Red Devils would need to increase their initial offer by £16m, Hargreaves, who made 39 appearances for United, believes he's worth it.
He told BT Sport: "I'm not sure €60m (£47m) is a gamble.
"The release clause is ridiculous but he's going to be a super player no question.
"He's an 18-year-old, only played fifteen games so far but he's got a terrific future ahead of him.
"He's more of a box-to-box midfielder. Really good passer of the ball. Great striker of the ball from distance."
United are fifth in the table, six points behind rivals Manchester City in fourth.
