Leicester ready to s,plash   out £22m for Jamie Vardy's new strike partner Ahmed Musa

LEICESTER are set to s,plash    the cash to get Jamie Vardy a new strike partner.

Foxes boss Claudio Ranieri is ready to smash the club transfer record to grab Nigerian international Ahmed Musa in a £22m deal.

Ranieri wants to strengthen his attacking options as he grapples with Leicester’s title defence and Champions League football.

So he’s gone back in for CSKA hitman Musa who he tried to sign in January.

Leicester’s £17m valuation was considered way too low and the 23-year-old, who scored 18 goals last season, was forced to stay put.

But this time even CSKA boss Lenid Slutsky reckons the improved offer is likely to swing it Leicester’s way.

Slutsky said: “I don’t know for sure because it is up to the management but I think the probability of him moving is high.”

Leicester have taken a hit on former club record signing Andrej Kramaric who has failed to make an impression.

The Croatian who cost £9.7m joined Hoffenheim yesterday where he has been on loan since January but the German club are only believed to have paid around half that amount.

Leicester are ready to do plenty of business this summer with the club’s Thai owners admitting that rewarding the current squad is proving taxing enough.

Vice chairman Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha says that while they are happy to reward the shock champions, their hands are tied by financial fair play regulations.

Leicester still have a Football League probe hanging over them from their Championship winning season two years ago with claims that they may have breached regulations regarding their sponsorship and commercial income.

Aiyawatt says he will be doing everything within his powers to make sure Leicester’s title-winning stars are financially rewarded for their unexpected success.

“I’m super fair and happy to improve things if they deserve something,” he said.

“I cannot say numbers. I heard we are going to give them a Mercedes Benz. I don’t know where that’s from. But it’s a good idea, if I can I will do it! I have to see the regulations and I follow. If I can, I will.

“The Premier League have a lot of regulations and rules how to spend the money.

“The players understand they get paid well really. That is a challenge for me as an owner.”
