Manchester United signing reminds me of Johan Cryuff, says former Red Devil
IT'S fair to say Manchester United pulled off two of the more surprising deals of the January transfer window in Salford City's Sadiq El Fitouri and Bolton's Andy Kellett.
But Red Devils fans should sit up and take notice of Manchester City reject El Fitouri, according to former Old Trafford defender Phil Neville.
Recalling the first time he saw the Libya-born defender play, Neville - a co-owner of Salford - claims he was reminded of the Holland great Johan Cryuff by the way El Fitouri went past players.
The 20-year-old had been out of football for nine months after being released by City when he got in touch with Salford through their website about a trial.
El Fitouri arrived at the club in December and after impressing Neville and fellow co-owner Paul Scholes in bleep tests, Neville recommended him to United where he signed an 18-month deal.
Recalling his first impressions, Neville told the Manchester Evening News: "We had a practice game, 11v11. It was absolutely freezing.
"Sadiq went down the wing, went past a player like Cruyff then stroked the ball into midfield.
"I'd been drawn to him since that bleep test but the more we watched him in training, the more I thought: 'He's a player'.
"After four times I thought: 'This lad is definitely a player'."
