Liverpool vs Man City: Brendan Rodgers makes big claim about Champions League draw

FORMER Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers believes the Reds' double-header with Manchester City is the best draw of the Champions League quarter-finals.

Liverpool host Manchester City at Anfield on April 4 in the first leg and travel to the Etihad six days later for the reverse fixture.

The two sides have already produced 12 goals in their two Premier League games this season.

City won at home 5-0 back in August but fell to a thrilling 4-3 defeat on Merseyside in January.

And Rodgers, who was in charge of Liverpool for three years, believes it will be the “tie of the round”.

"It's brilliant. Two fantastic teams, it's going to be a special occasion," the Celtic boss said.

"Obviously the first game is at Anfield so Liverpool will look to make a good start in the tie there.

“It's a fascinating game, it should be brilliant.

"It's just a shame that both got drawn together at this stage; it would have been nice for them to have been split up, to be honest.

“They're both two very, very good sides. I think it's probably the tie of the round."

Elsewhere in yesterday’s quarter-final draw, La Liga leaders Barcelona were drawn to face Roma and holders Real Madrid were given a tie against Juventus.

Sevilla's reward for their surprise victory over Manchester United was a clash with Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich.
