The Open 2017: Brooks Koepka ready for action at Royal Birkdale after four-week break


 
US OPEN winner Brooks Koepka says he’s back in the swing of things after awarding himself a four-week break.
 
The 27-year-old took a month off after his stunning win in Wisconsin to soak up the enormity of what he had just done.
 
 He had a £1.6m winner’s cheque to reflect on as he chose an unusual preparation plan for this week’s Open at Royal Birkdale.
 
 Now Koepka is raring to go and firmly believes he’s better equipped than most to try and tame the famous Southport links.
 
 He spent three years on the European tour after turning pro back in 2012 and is no stranger to playing links courses.
 
 Koepka said: “I feel really refreshed. I’m kind of excited to get back inside the ropes after getting away from it all for a while.
 
 “I love links golf. In America you just fire it at the pin and hope it stays up there, but these courses here present completely different challenges.
 
 “You learn to love it. My three years here were just the best. I like the creativity of shots called for.”
