JOEY BARTON CALLS FOR 'FAT AND GREEDY' PFA CHIEF GORDON TAYLOR TO RESIGN
JOEY BARTON has called for "fat and greedy' players" chief Gordon Taylor to resign over the latest anti-racism row.
The on-loan Marseille midfielder hit out after reports suggested a number of high-profile black players are poised to establish their own union.
Rio Ferdinand and Jason Roberts led a number of black stars in boycotting a 'Kick It Out' campaign this weekend, to express their unhappiness at the anti-racism campaign's recent efforts.
In a bid to counter any move to break up the Professional Footballers Association (PFA), chief executive Taylor today launched a six-point plan to deal with race problems in the game.
But Barton believes that Taylor's announcement is merely part of a power-grab.
"My gut feeling is thats its a opportunistic move by some with hidden agendas to cease control for their own gains," the 30-year-old wrote on Twitter.
The QPR star, who is currently banned from domestic football for violent conduct, also suggested Taylor's position as one of the highest-paid union bosses in the world had turned him into "a fat, festering old king."
But Barton's anger wasn't reserved merely for football bosses.
The former Newcastle ace also called for his fellow players to speak up if they didn't want their union to split.
"Hopefully, some of the more vocal and less notorious amongst us, raise their heads from below the PR department desk."
