DARREN BENT'S LATE BID FOR EURO 2012

DARREN BENT is still hoping for a frantic late dash on to England’s Euro 2012 plane.

The Aston Villa striker is making good progress after being ruled out for the season with ankle ligament damage in February.

The 28-year-old is now off crutches and admits he is frustrated at not being able to help Villa and stake a claim for the big one in the summer.

Villa’s £24m man had just established himself as one of the leading pack of strikers before being struck down by injury.

Bent said: “I’m on the mend, without crutches and just started rehab work in the gym and pool.

“It’s too early to say for England. The quicker I’m out on the pitch, then the quicker I will have an inkling about Euro 2012.

“That’s a big goal but first and foremost it’s about Villa. I wish I was able to play and help Villa out of this situation.
