LIVERPOOL BOSS BRENDAN RODGERS PLAYS DOWN THEO WALCOTT RUMOURS

LIVERPOOL boss Brendan Rodgers admitted he will be working hard to strengthen his squad in January, but Theo Walcott is unlikely to be arriving at Anfield.

A number of recent reports have linked the England international with a move to Merseyside, as he is yet to sign a new contract at Arsenal.

But Rodgers played down the prospect of the 23-year-old joining the Reds.

"There is nothing to say (about Walcott). He is an Arsenal player and it is all speculation about many players at the moment," he said.

And although the former Swansea boss is desperate to bring in a host of stars during the transfer window, he is not confident of getting value for money mid-season.

"We'll have funds and I'm in talks with the owners at the moment, along with our recruitment team.

"January is always a difficult window. You don't get too many top, top players."

Rodgers also revealed that funds were tight at Liverpool, following the club's heavy spending in recent years.

"Obviously we are limited in what we can bring both in terms of availability of players and financially but there is no doubt we need to do that.

"Our scouting team are working hard to identify those talents and who might be available.

"There is no doubt we need that support (from new players) in January and I am very confident we will be able to do that."
