JOHN TERRY GIVEN 4 MATCH BAN

FORMER England captain John Terry was today handed a four-match ban after being found guilty of using racist language.

The Chelsea skipper has also been fined £220,000 by the FA for the incident involving QPR's Anton Ferdinand last October.

The 31-year-old was described as "disappointed" by the verdict and will ask for written reasons of the decision before deciding whether to lodge an appeal.

Terry is therefore likely to be available for his side's Premier League clash with Arsenal on Saturday.

The defender's misconduct charge related to his use of abusive and/or insulting words and/or behaviour which included a reference to colour and/or race.

Chief magistrate Howard Riddle previously cleared Terry of a racially aggravated public order offence following a week-long trial.

The Stamford Bridge star announced his retirement from international football on Sunday night, after claiming that the FA's decision to proceed with a disciplinary hearing against him had made his position "untenable".
