 The ANDDI will organize, with support from the Regional Government, the World Championships for athletes with Down syndrome (IAADS), which will run between 15 and 21 May, with the expected presence of some 170 participants, representing 17 countries.
 The protocol for performing this league was signed between the Regional Secretariat for Education and Training and the Azores-Portugal ANDDI.
 "The potential of sport as a phenomenon of inclusion and capacity for tolerance and equality for all is clear", said Claudia Cardoso, Regional Secretary for Education, at the signing ceremony of the agreement.
 At the time, Claudia Cardoso recalled that the Azores have been serving a "walk to the unprecedented level of disability sports," highlighting the work developed by the association leaders in this area.
 The regional secretary emphasized that the results have been achieved in this area, recalling the example of Mary John Smith, an athlete with Trisomy 21 the island of Pico, who was crowned World Champion and record holder.
  "It's an incentive for managers to continue working to have a sport excellence in the region," he said, noting that the growth in this area is a source of pride and allows the Azores "ombreiem with other regions with more capabilities and fewer results ".
  The 2nd World Championships in Athletics IAADS for athletes with Down syndrome will, in addition to Portugal, with athletes from South Africa, Brazil, Cameroon, Costa Rica, Estonia, Finland, Ghana, Great Britain, Italy, Macau, Mexico , Nigeria, Dominican Republic, Turkmenistan, Turkey and Venezuela.
