Sports Personality of the Year 2017: Who are the 12 contenders to win the BBC gong?
THE BBC have revealed a 12-person shortlist of those in the running to be crowned the 2017 Sports Personality of the Year.
The event takes place in Liverpool on Sunday, December 17 with a host of awards set to be given out on the glitzy show.
Andy Murray has won in three of the last four years but the Briton is not among the 12 nominees after his injury-hit season this time round.
There is still a tennis player on the shortlist though.
Famous faces from F1, boxing, athletics, cricket and football have all also been given the nod.
And the more niche sports of speed skating, swimming, motorcycling and taekwondo are represented too.
Other awards given out on the glamourous evening will include the Overseas Sports Personality, Team of the Year and Young Sports Personality.
Votes can be cast by phone or online on the evening of the show for the main award.
The number to call for each contender will be revealed during the programme. There is no voting via email, Red Button or via text this year.
