LONDON 2012: PHILLIPS IDOWU ‘CROCK’ STORM
ANGRY Phillips Idowu is at war with British Olympic chiefs for demanding his medical records.
The triple jumper failed to travel to the British team’s Portugal training camp. Instead, Idowu (left) stayed in London for treatment on a hip.
Officials want to know if the 2009 world champion will be fit to compete on August 7.
But last night he said: “I’m fine, I’m OK. Things are being blown out of proportion. The season’s goal is still the same – to come away with the Olympic gold medal.
“Even if the build-up to the Games hasn’t been what I wanted, I’ll always come out and jump a season’s best. I’ll do everything I can to make sure I’m pain free.”
His agent, Jonathan Marks, said: “He’s incredibly disappointed and surprised as to why the BOA has chosen to do this.”
But the BOA’s Darryl Seibel cited “a clause in our team members’ agreement that says athletes are required to provide details of any injury or illness that may impact on performance during the Games.”
