Tyson Fury makes shock Twitter announcement: I am no longer a gypsy
TYSON FURY is turning his back on his gypsy roots.
The retired heavyweight boxer, who used to call himself the Gypsy King, made the shock announcement on Twitter this afternoon.
He wrote: “I am no longer being a gypsy. From now on call me Gorga Tys, 2017 new beginning.
“I just feel I’m not a Gypsy, I don’t have the same beliefs as the gypsy culture, I denounce and I am a gypsy any longer.”
'Gorga' is a slang term used by gypsies to describe non-gypsies.
Fury has previously spoken out about how he feels he's not accepted in Britain because of his traveller roots.
He said last year: “It’s been a witch hunt ever since I won that world title, because of my background, because of who I am and what I do.”
It's not the first time Fury has used Twitter to make a surprise announcement.
He is a born-again Christian but appeared to convert to Islam in November when he changed his name to “Riaz Tyson Muhammad”.
