CHELSEA STAR RYAN BERTRAND MOCKED BY ENGLAND FANS AFTER 'SORE THROAT' ROW

CHELSEA star Ryan Bertrand has been mocked by fans after withdrawing from the England squad through illness.

The 23-year-old pulled out of the World Cup qualifier with San Marino on Friday night, with initial reports suggesting he was suffering from a "sore throat".

But the defender reacted angrily to the description of his condition, taking to Twitter to hit out at media statements.

"Just to clarify.... Its not a "sore throat" Im ill.swollen glands in my neck... And constant headache for 3 days now and freezin cold," he wrote.

"Do you think a "sorethroat" could stop me being apart of a match for my club or country? your f****** nuts this is what every boy dreams of."

Bertrand later apologised for his use of expletive, but fans still managed to find the funny side of the whole incident.

Twitter users were quick to trend the hashtag "PrayForBertrand", ironically recalling the response to Fabrice Muamba's heart tragedy on the social network.

As Joe Sullivan pointed out: "to think that rugby league player played on through a ruptured testicle last week, good job it wasn't a sore throat! #prayforbertrand"

"Such a same for such a huge talent to be cut down in his prime, hope he can make a full recovery #PrayForBertrand," added Adam Walker.
