Wayne Rooney rested as England manager Roy Hodgson makes six changes for Slovakia clash
 

 
ROY HODGSON is taking a huge gamble by resting Wayne Rooney against Slovakia tonight.
 
 The Three Lions skipper is one of SIX changes for a game England must win to guarantee top spot in Group B and a favourable route into the last 16. He’ll be replaced by Liverpool’s Jordan Henderson.
 
 Jamie Vardy and Daniel Sturridge have been rewarded for scoring the goals to beat Wales after coming on at the break with starting spots, while Jack Wilshere will replace the rested Dele Alli in midfield.
 
 Hodgson will also shake up his defence with Nathaniel Clyne and Ryan Bertrand coming in for Tottenham duo Kyle Walker and Danny Rose.
 
 But Rooney is rested and there is no place for strikers Raheem Sterling and Harry Kane who started England’s first two games but were replaced at half-time to make way for Vardy and Sturridge.
 
 Sturridge has been warned though to expect a kicking from his Liverpool team-mate Martin Skrtel, who says he will take no prisoners.
 
 “We can be friends before and after the game,” said the Slovakian hardman. “On the pitch, there are no friends.
 
 “If you asked Daniel he’d answer the same. We try and do the best for the team.
 
 “If that means having to kick him, then yes, of course.
 
 “It’s not a normal situation for me, but we’re professionals and it’s all part of the job.
 
 “The pressure will be on the English, though I think they have enough experience to be able to handle it.”
 
 Hodgson has warned his men to beware of the threat of midfield playmaker Marek Hamsik.
 
 The Napoli star scored the winner in their 2-1 defeat of Russia and Hodgson said: “As a team, we certainly think Slovakia are very dangerous going forward.
 
 “Although I didn’t want to single him out, Hamsik does need singling out because he is an exceptional player.”
